Official Titles and Post-Nominal Letters

Following real parliamentary procedure, our Parliamentarians may use official titles or post-nominal letters on MPSP Twitter or during events.

All Members of the House of Commons may use the post-nominal letters M.P. Unless you have participated in the past, you are just a candidate until Election Night, and not a Parliamentarian yet!

If you have previously been given the title of Minster, you have the official title of "The Honourable" and can use the post-nominal letters P.C.

If you have previously been given the title of Prime Minister, you have the official title of "The Right Honourable” and can use the post-nominal letters P.C.

If you have not been given a ministry or a PM title, you have no title.

If you have been appointed a Companion, an Officer, or a Member of the Order of Canada by the Governor General, you may use the respective post-nominal letters C.M., O.C., or C.C.

Order of titles and post-nominal letters:

The (Right) Honourable John Doe, P.C., C.C., M.P.
